Voice Male
May 12th 2005 - Rabotheater Hengelo
When we entered the theater we saw many kids. Many, many kids. Oh no, we thought... A complete school has bought tickets! The concert was sold out. I was only hoping the kids wouldn't be too noisy (I can remember me being that age and going to the theater with my schoolclass.......)
We were sitting in the third row, almost in the middle. Really good places. On stage there were three blocks in different heights. It reminded me of a Zuma-stage from years ago. Eight o'clock. The concert started off with Standing strong together from Total Touch. Wow, that sounded good. I only thought it sounded a little soft (or should I say flat), but maybe the men were also a little intimidated by the many schookids :P Anyway, this was the only song where that thought came up in my mind so I guess it was just a little stage-tension-for-the-first-song-kind'a'thing.

In between the songs the men told us in turn about the group, or about a particular song. So we got to know this show was filled with songs from Holland and Belgium, because their tour goes mostly through these countries. It turned out to be a very varied show with many different kind of songs, in both English and Dutch. Really a very good repertoire.
I always like to hear familiar songs in an a cappella arrangement.
So e.g. I liked She couldn't laugh from
Twarres a lot. Also really cool was Ramaganana
from Treble. I love this song so much, and right now I don't know if I
like the a cappella version more or the Treble-version...
It sounded so good. And, it was really fun to see the men on stage sing
this, for they were so enthousiastic. Even Jan (Coesemans), whom I thought
was a little reserved with the dancing at first, was totally swinging
during this song.
Talking about the choreography/stage, the three blocks were functional in some songs (it made Tijl look a lot bigger *hehe*) but sometimes I thought the blocks were more an obstacle. Six men on quite a small stage, that's quickly full already haha. Some of the choreography could be refined a little, but with most of the songs it was just right.
Most important thing I noticed was the fun and enthusiasm from the singers on
stage. This really spread to the audience which made the concert very lively and active.
The audience got so enthusiastic, it was clapping with many songs. Only a
pity a lot of people didn't know how to time their clapping to the rythm of
the song.... :/
Besides covers they sang some self written songs. I love this, for
it truly shows ones talents. All in all it was a great concert. After
singing an extra song, the audience kept shouting 'we want more', so
they started over with Standing strong together which sounded much better now.
We bought the album Approved,
which I can recommend to everybody, especially because of the four professional videoclips
on the accompanying DVD ;)
Not to forget the hilariously commercial where well-known 'Mike' is selling
Voice Male CD's :D We had a little chat with Jo about making pictures during
the concert. We were happy it was allowed (naturally without flash) and I
can put them online here without any trouble. I want to thank Voice Male
for their show and I think there's a big chance we'll meet again one day.
